This is another illustration for Interpretive class.  We were to illustrate for a department section of a magazine.  I chose the fine dining section, thinking a lot about desserts and a more modern version of Marie Antoinette.

This is an illustration created for Interpretive class.  We were to illustrate metaphorically to a song from the past.  I chose Killer Queen by the band Queen.

Art Jam 2009

I attended the Art Jam that happened earlier this year at Sheridan.  It was fun, and I chose to paint on a small jewelry-type box that was supplied at the Jam.  There were prizes for best-in-show at the end, and my piece came in second place.  I was quite happy about that.

Anyway, I didn't take these photos.  They are available to view on the Art Jam site where you can bid on my piece (it's also signed, and there's a little figure on the other side as well) to help support the 4th year grad show.  It's a great cause.  There's a lot of amazing talent in this years 4th year class.  A lot of their work has been so inspirational to me.

Sherbet

This is a personal piece on wood panel.  Over the passed couple of months I've decided to delve into personal work and just enjoy the creative process.  I'm hoping to learn a lot more about colour and composition through trial and error, as well.

The piece was a bit larger than the scanner I used, so it's somewhat cropped from the original piece. (a bit on the left and the bottom)  I hope to be able to scan it again soon.

redemption

This is a cover illustration for electronic media class.  We were to choose a novel and illustrate the cover.  We will also design the layout with the illustration included.  The novel I chose was The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.  It's a story about a puritan woman named Hester who has an affair while her husband is away.  She was then forced to always wear a capital letter A on her dress.

I wanted to choose a different approach to previous illustrated covers of this novel and not focus on just Hester and her child born from the affair.  I wanted to focus on the actual lust instead.  The scarlet letter A is in a white circle symbolizing her pregnancy and adultery.

I finished this piece a couple of weeks ago.  It was about time I started painting it.  I posted the line art about a year ago, which was when I began working on it.  I'm glad to have it finished.  More personal work to come soon.
